Honda Legend
The Directors and staff of Murcotts Driving Excellence have been deeply saddened by the news of Peter’s tragic death. Our thoughts are with his children - Jamie, Robert and Alexandra and his life partner Bev and current partner Julie Bamford.

Murcotts Driving Excellence will be honouring Peter Brock and his strong push for better training for young drivers.

Brocks relationship with Murcotts over many years included a period in the 90’s when the business was named “Jim Murcott’s Advanced Driving Centre in conjunction with Peter Brock”. Peter was always passionate about young

drivers getting the right help to drive safely and combined with Jim Murcott they were a formidable road safety team.

Anthony Frederiksen, Murcotts Manager of Special Events represented the company at the state funeral of Peter Brock. Anthony worked with Peter preparing his race cars at HRT between 1994-1997.

You can read the full story here and learn how Murcotts plans to assist the Peter Brock Foundation through this year’s Xmas Clinics.

Honda Legend
Murcotts have just completed a national rollout for Honda Sales and Service staff based on vehicle product knowledge and familiarity of the new Luxury Legend. “The car is absolutely fantastic” says Tony Frederiksen, Murcotts Special Events Manager.

The training consisted of both on road and off road driving and Murcotts Principal trainer John Ristell was extremely complimentary of the vehicle and it’s technology especially the ‘super handling All Wheel drive”.

The program commenced in early August and was delivered in the major capital cities concluding at the AHG driving centre in Perth. Approximately 200 Honda staff attended the training days around Australia. To learn more about the new Honda Legend, just click here.

Drivers In The Workplace Seminars Another Sellout

#
The highly successful Drivers in the Workplace Seminars introduced over two years have again been rolled out during September in Melbourne and Sydney.

Murcotts Director Geoff Thomas and Business Development Manager Darren McLeod headed up the seminars that target the key initiatives that will reduce crashes and claims for workplace drivers.

More than 120 senior HR, Fleet and OH&S managers of some of Australia’s largest organisations attended the Victorian and NSW sessions.

The intimate short half day sessions focused managers on the key systems that are most commonly overlooked in fleet and driver management programs. A pre seminar survey completed by participants profiled the gaps in existing approaches and benchmarked the ideal systems that are supported by international research.

The legal implications for employers and particularly the liability for senior executives who fail to deal with driver risk factors at work were highlighted with many attendees surprised that even novated lease vehicles are captured under OH&S legislation.

As discovered in previous seminars, the major risks exposure arises through poor driver recruitment, induction and performance management systems. Additionally many employers still fail to effectively investigate crashes based on a proven model and rarely are crash claims managed in consultation with fleet insurers.

Geoff Thomas emphasised the importance of  providing training and education as a component of a total system to ensure sustained safe driver performance rather than as a quick fix or single solution. “Don’t send drivers who have crashes to further training”, he said, “Find out why they failed to apply what they have previously been taught.”  He suggests a conversation within the performance management  process may be more helpful.

A common concern by attendees was the lack of support  from company executives about the risk factors and how to motivate them to support policy initiatives. In citing the transport industry experience Geoff Thomas said that unfortunately some business leaders will only elevate the driver management agenda when faced with prosecution or jail for negligence.

As part of attending the seminars all managers left with a comprehensive mobile phone policy which they were invited to implement into their company procedures.

Murcotts & Camberwell VW Launch Golf GTI Day

#
VW GTI
The VW Golf GTI won Top Gear’s Car of the Year award in 2005. It has won countless others since then and has easily put VW back in favour with every “hot hatch” enthusiast everywhere.

The car has been so successful that there were sales delays of up to 8 months here in Australia.

Says Dane Kelly, Brand Manager of Camberwell Volkswagen, “the GTI is the perfect combination of performance, technology and build quality – there is simply no other car that represents the same value for money and driver satisfaction”.

The DSG gearbox is probably the best gearbox that exists in a car today and it is little wonder that other manufacturers are following in VW’s footsteps.

As a commitment to customer safety, Camberwell VW hosted a Performance Drive Day for all of their GTI customers at Sandown Raceway on August 20. Word quickly spread that the day was being held via a few of the online VW forums and soon there were customers from South Yarra VW and Barloworld (who interestingly both refused to participate in this day). People came from as far as Tasmania to attend.

You can view a quick video of the highlights of the day here

Murcotts applauds Camberwell VW’s initiative in hosting this day for a group of their very special customers.

To learn how Murcotts can help you put on an event like this, contact Tony Frederiksen, Manager, Special Events at Murcotts on 1300.555.576.
