Defensive Driver Training Program Level 1

Suitable for all drivers from "P" Platers to 80 year olds

This one day Defensive Driving Program Level 1 is suited to drivers of regular passenger vehicles (including four-wheel drives and light commercial vehicles).

The mix of practical and theoretical sessions deliver actual on-road safety skills that underpin proactive driving. The program is based on the BAAMS¨ Driver Profile exclusive to Murcotts Driving Excellence.

The BAAMS® system recognises that safe driving is dependent on:

• BEHAVIOUR
• ATTITUDE
• AWARENESS
• MOTIVATION and
• SKILL

Other elements of the program include:

• HAZARD DETECTION - LOOK UP - STAY BACK the technique and skill of reading ahead and identifying hazards
• VEHICLE SAFETY - checklist, driving position, tyres and pressures
• PRACTICAL LEARNING - understanding the relationship between reaction time, speed and stopping distances
• VEHICLE DYNAMICS - understanding what causes skids and vehicle instability
• KEY ROAD LAWS - practical interpretation
• All practical training conducted at suburban speeds.

The principles of Defensive Driving: Practical systems for drivers to minimise risks and improve driver's safety margin.

Learning objectives

• Evaluate your own level of skill in day to day emergencies
• Improve decision making and perceptual skills
• Develop a positive attitude towards defensive driving
• Driver booklet and Certificates issued at program completion.

After completing this program drivers are eligible to attend the Defensive Driving Program Level 2.

Participants must be licensed and supply own vehicle.

Two drivers may share the same vehicle - normal fees apply to each driver.

Drivers must sign an indemnity for the practical component.
