Accredited Drink Driver Education And Assessment Program Current drink driving intervention programs are not working. The facts are simple; many of the ‘graduates’ of these courses are reoffending. Of the 22,000 people convicted each year around 7,000 of those have two or more convictions for drink driving. As well, the assumption is made that the drink driver has made a one-off mistake by driving with a blood alcohol content in excess of the legal limit. The truth is a first offender is rarely a first time drink driver. Recidivism must be reduced and that cannot happen under the current model. Research shows that the most effective drink driving rehabilitation centres on properly tailored programs that start with discovering the cause of the offender’s drinking and driving then works with them to change that behaviour to break the link between their drinking and their driving. Doing this will result in a major reduction in repeat offending. Addressing this, Murcotts offers an Accredited Drink Driver Education and Assessment Program. Murcotts is the only driver training organisation to be fully accredited to provide such a program.
